Peptide reconstitution calculator
This peptide calculator does the reconstitution arithmetic for a lyophilized vial: how concentrated the solution is after mixing, how much volume a prescribed dose takes up, where that falls on a U-100 insulin syringe, and how many doses the vial holds.
It is a math aid for prescribers, pharmacy staff, and patients checking a label. It does not recommend a dose. The vial amount, the diluent and its volume, and the dose must all come from the prescription and the dispensing pharmacy's label.

How the math works
Concentration = peptide in the vial ÷ diluent added. For example, 5 mg (5,000 mcg) in 2 mL is 2,500 mcg/mL.
Volume per dose = prescribed dose ÷ concentration. A 250 mcg dose from 2,500 mcg/mL is 0.1 mL.
Syringe units = volume in mL × 100, because a U-100 insulin syringe holds 100 units per mL. 0.1 mL is 10 units.
Doses per vial = peptide in the vial ÷ dose. 5,000 mcg ÷ 250 mcg is 20 doses. In practice a small amount is lost to the syringe and vial, so the usable count is slightly lower.
FAQ
Common questions
How do you calculate peptide reconstitution?
Divide the amount of peptide in the vial by the volume of diluent to get the concentration. Then divide the prescribed dose by that concentration to get the volume to draw, and multiply by 100 to convert mL to units on a U-100 syringe.
How many units is 250 mcg?
It depends entirely on the concentration. At 2,500 mcg/mL, 250 mcg is 0.1 mL, or 10 units on a U-100 syringe. At 5,000 mcg/mL it is 5 units. Enter the vial size and diluent volume from the label to get the right number.
How much bacteriostatic water should I add?
Add exactly the volume stated on the pharmacy label. The calculator shows how different volumes change the concentration, but it cannot tell you which volume to use — the pharmacy and prescriber specify that.
Can I use this calculator with a U-40 or tuberculin syringe?
The unit results assume a U-100 insulin syringe. The mL result applies to any syringe, but unit markings on other syringe types represent different volumes, so use the mL figure and the markings on the syringe you were prescribed.
Does the calculator tell me what dose to take?
No. It only converts a dose you already have into a volume. Dosing is a clinical decision made by a licensed prescriber.
What's the difference between mg and mcg?
One milligram (mg) equals 1,000 micrograms (mcg). Vial contents are usually listed in mg and doses often in mcg, and confusing the two is a thousand-fold error — the calculator takes the vial in mg and lets you enter the dose in either mcg or mg to avoid it.
